CM Dhami Reviews Skill Development and Labor Department, Emphasizes Employment-Oriented Training for Youth

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today chaired a high-level review meeting of the Skill Development and Labor Department at the Secretariat and issued key directives to strengthen employment opportunities for the youth of Uttarakhand through targeted skill development initiatives.

The Chief Minister emphasized inter-departmental coordination to ensure that youth are connected with skill development and employment in a structured and time-bound manner. He instructed the Chief Secretary to convene a meeting with all departmental secretaries and formulate a comprehensive strategy in this regard.

Highlighting the need for industry-relevant training, CM Dhami stressed that skill development programs should be linked with incubation and growth centers. He called for district-specific training modules for trades such as plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and mechanics, using advanced labs, smart classrooms, and modern machinery.

The Chief Minister also instructed officials to align training programs with the traditional strengths of each district, ensuring the preservation of local identity while generating employment. He further directed the department to enhance registration on the e-Shram portal and extend social security benefits to all skilled workers.

In a significant move toward eradicating child labor, the CM called for a detailed rehabilitation plan and announced special campaigns in major districts to ensure freedom from child labor. He also proposed the creation of special skill centers for women and the introduction of “Skill on Wheels” vans to reach remote regions.

To facilitate overseas employment, especially in the healthcare and hospitality sectors, the CM suggested collaboration with Indian embassies. He also emphasized regular coordination with Doon University to provide foreign language training.

Finally, he directed the department to submit a detailed 10-day action plan outlining yearly data on youth trained and employed, along with the roadmap for the future.
