Retired IG and Colonel Elected Gram Pradhans: CM Dhami Hails it as Symbol of Reverse Migration

Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has congratulated retired Inspector General of Police (IG) Bimla Gunjyal and former Colonel Yashpal Singh Negi on being elected unopposed as Gram Pradhans of their native villages. Bimla Gunjyal has been elected Pradhan of Gunji Gram Panchayat in border district Pithoragarh, while Colonel Yashpal Singh Negi has been elected from Birgan Gram Panchayat in district Pauri.

Describing this as an inspiring example of reverse migration, the Chief Minister called it a “pleasant and motivating development” that highlights the growing sense of commitment among experienced individuals to serve their native villages even after retirement.

CM Dhami expressed confidence that the election of these two distinguished officers will not only strengthen the Panchayati Raj system but also bring fresh energy and vision to rural development efforts. “With their experience and dedication, both Gunji and Birgan can emerge as model villages for others to emulate,” he said.

He emphasized that such stories reinforce the belief that retirement is not the end of service, but a new beginning where individuals can contribute meaningfully to grassroots development.

The Chief Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to promoting rural livelihoods, agriculture, horticulture, and self-employment, saying these are crucial to making villages self-reliant and reversing migration trends.

He added that the government will extend all possible support to such initiatives and called upon other retired officers and professionals to return to their roots and contribute to the state’s development.
