Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Premchand Aggarwal has resigned from his cabinet post, submitting his resignation to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. His decision comes amid growing regional tensions and alleged divisions between Pahad (hills) and Maidan (plains) in the state. Sources said CM Dhami has forwarded the letter to Rajbhawan.
Before stepping down, Aggarwal visited Rampur Tiraha, Muzaffarnagar, the site where several people, including women, were brutally beaten during the separate Uttarakhand movement in 1992. At a press conference following his visit, Aggarwal expressed concern over the worsening socio-political divide in Uttarakhand. “I cannot bear to see the increasing rift between Pahad and Maidan. People are trying to vitiate the atmosphere, and I do not wish to be a part of it,” he said.
His resignation has sparked discussions in political circles, with many speculating about its impact on the state’s governance and upcoming elections. The ruling party has yet to comment officially on his decision. Meanwhile, Aggarwal’s move has resonated with many, reigniting conversations about regional unity and Uttarakhand’s identity.
