Commissioner Deepak Rawat action to combat Forest Fires in Kumaon

Taking cognizance on the forest fire, Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat has instructed Chief Conservator of Forests, Kumaon, P.K. Gave to take immediate action to mitigate the impact of these fires.

Acknowledging the severity of the situation, Commissioner Rawat stressed the need for swift response times and proactive measures to contain forest fires. He urged officials to appoint forest officers at the local level and raise awareness among the community about fire prevention strategies. Additionally, he emphasized the deployment of more fire watchers in affected areas to effectively manage and control the fires.

Strict instructions were given to forest guards and fire watchers to remain vigilant and diligent in their duties, with Commissioner Rawat warning of severe consequences for anyone found intentionally starting fires in the forests.

In a virtual conference, CCF PK Patro informed that vehicles have been allocated for each range facing a shortage of fire watchers, and all Divisional Forest Officers (DFOs) were directed to deploy additional fire watchers as necessary. The need for support from PRD, Home Guards, and local residents was also highlighted.

Commissioner Rawat announced plans to deploy PRD and Home Guards from the district level and mobilize local residents under the supervision of Village Development Officers to assist in fire extinguishing efforts. Additionally, fire brigades will be stationed along main roads to respond swiftly to any fire incidents.

During the conference, Divisional Forest Officer TR Biju Lal and Dr. Vinay Kumar Bhargava, along with forest officers from the concerned areas, discussed detailed strategies to prevent and combat forest fires.

The concerted efforts led by Commissioner Deepak Rawat underscore the administration’s commitment to safeguarding Uttarakhand’s precious forest resources and protecting the environment for future generations.
