In a major boost to advanced healthcare in Uttarakhand, Government Doon Medical College and Hospital — the state’s first government medical college — has established a state-of-the-art Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) unit.
The HBOT unit is expected to significantly benefit patients across a wide spectrum of medical conditions. Experts said the therapy will support autism management, aid in cancer care, accelerate recovery in patients undergoing chemotherapy, and provide critical support to those suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD).
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized environment, which helps increase oxygen levels in the body and promotes healing at the cellular level. The facility is also likely to be useful in treating wounds, infections, and certain neurological conditions.
Officials said that the introduction of HBOT at Doon Medical College will not only reduce dependency on private facilities but also make advanced treatment accessible and affordable to common people. Being the first government-run medical institution in Uttarakhand to house such a unit, the move is being seen as a milestone in strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure.
Doctors at the hospital expressed confidence that the HBOT unit will open new possibilities in patient care and greatly improve treatment outcomes for critical and chronic illnesses.
