Women associated with solar self-employment will be known as Solar Sakhi says CM Dhami

In a bid to empower women and promote clean energy, the Uttarakhand government has decided to officially designate women engaged in solar self-employment as “Solar Sakhis.” The announcement was made during the Mukhya Sevak Samvad program held in Dehradun, where Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami interacted with beneficiaries of the Solar Self-Employment Scheme.

Its objective was to have direct interaction with the women and youth who have benefited from the scheme. The experiences and suggestions shared during the interaction will help the government further refine and expand the scheme to ensure it remains effective, inclusive, and in alignment with public welfare objectives.

In his address Chief Minister Dhami highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Solar Self-Employment Scheme has become a transformative initiative in Uttarakhand. The scheme is playing a dual role — accelerating the adoption of clean, renewable energy while also fostering economic independence among the state’s youth and women.

The Chief Minister announced that the women who have successfully established self-employment ventures in the solar sector will be honored with the title of “Solar Sakhi.” Their stories of success and determination will be widely shared to inspire and encourage more women to take up opportunities in the renewable energy space.

Officials noted that the initiative not only contributes to women’s empowerment but also aligns with the broader vision of “Developed Uttarakhand, Developed India.” By enabling local employment and supporting the clean energy transition, the state government is creating sustainable growth models that benefit both the economy and the environment.

The Solar Sakhi initiative stands as a beacon of progress, showcasing how inclusive policies and grassroots empowerment can lead to meaningful change in society.
