In a strengthen the healthcare services ahead of the Chardham Yatra, the Uttarakhand government has appointed 45 specialist doctors across the state. The Department of Medical Health and Medical Education has issued an official order to enhance emergency and general medical care on way to char dham yatra routes.

Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar said that the appointed doctors had earlier pursued post-graduate medical education sponsored by the department. After completion of their PG courses, now they are being deployed in district hospitals, sub-district hospitals, and community health centers based on their specializations.

These appointments cover critical departments such as Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Anesthesia, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Forensic Medicine, and General Medicine. The move is expected to significantly enhance medical care in both routine and emergency situations, particularly as lakhs of pilgrims are expected to arrive for the annual Chardham Yatra.

Secretary emphasized that the deployment prioritizes districts directly impacted by the Yatra or where healthcare infrastructure required urgent strengthening. These include Pauri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Tehri Garhwal, Almora, Champawat, Bageshwar, and Haridwar.

“In the past, a shortage of specialist doctors forced patients to travel to major cities for treatment,” Dr. Kumar noted. “With this new deployment, quality medical care in surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, and other specialties will now be available locally.”

The government has also made provisions for high-altitude medicine, cardiac emergency care, and trauma services, considering the health risks in the Himalayan region. Dr. Kumar warned that doctors failing to take charge on time would face disciplinary action.

This initiative marks a crucial step in ensuring safe and effective healthcare for pilgrims and residents alike during the high-footfall Yatra season.
