DAINIK NATION BUREAU/HALDWANI

In a bid to protect the nature, the Uttarakhand Forest Department has developed a Mahabharat Vatika spread over one acre in Haldwani. Here they have been planted 37 plant species mentioned in the ancient epic Mahabharat. It preserves and promotes ecological wisdom while emphasizing the deep interdependence between nature and wildlife as described in the epic.

The Mahabharat Vatika is an innovative effort to link historical knowledge with contemporary environmental conservation. The plants selected for the garden hold cultural and medicinal significance, most of them are highlighted in ancient scriptures. By preserving these species, we are trying to revive interest in traditional ecological practices and their relevance in modern-day environmental management.

The project also serves as a bridge between history, culture, and conservation. According to forest officials, the garden will not only enhance biodiversity in the region but also educate visitors about the importance of forests as depicted in ancient literature. Special informational boards have been installed to provide details about the plants and their references in the Mahabharat.

The Mahabharat Vatika is expected to become a significant attraction for students, researchers, and tourists interested in environmental conservation and Indian cultural heritage.
