A series of unique events lined up for Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas 2019 in Varanasi

The spiritual capital of India – Varanasi or Kashi, is all set to welcome over 400 NRI guests participating in PBD 2019 starting next week. People of Kashi will host the stay and care for more than one thousand five hundred NRI guests in their homes under Kashi Atithya scheme. These guests will get to experience essence of ‘Atithi Devo Bhawa’. The guests will get home cooked food to savour and best homely ambience to relish it. Besides, they will also be face to face with local people witnessing the routines of a typical Banarsi day in and day out.

On 21st January, on inauguration of Youth Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas around 700 guests will visit Swatantra Bhawan of Benaras Hindu University BHU, where along with many other programs they will also see an art exhibition commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on the theme ‘Pravasi Bhartiya’. Apart from it, they will also interact with the students of BHU.

In order to make this mega event more people oriented and inclusive, several sports and cultural activities are being organized in the run up of PBD 2019. Starting from 17th January, competition in traditional sports such as Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, wrestling, Mugdal are taking place with cash prizes of 51000, 25000, 10000 Rupees respectively. Walkathon with around 5000 participants, zumba dance, martial arts competition among women, health talks are other attractions for localities to connect them with PBD 2019. A three-day Kala Exhibition will mark PBD 2019 at Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth Vishwavidyalaya Varanasi. One more interesting event- sand art competition on theme of ‘Pravasi Bhartiya’ is also simultaneously being organised in various cities including Patna, Bhubaneshvar, Mumbai, Chennai and Varanasi.
