The Indian Air Force is going to trek Sundardunga Glacier. Their eleven warriors will trek the glacier at an altitude of 3880 metres situation at himalayan range. The 102 km trekking expedition will be flagged off by Group Captain S K Sriharsha, Station Commander, Air Force Station Bhowali, on october 28.
The 10-days long expedition led by Squadron Leader Shwetank Rana will trek through several villages and alpine forests of Uttarakhand and also interact with the local inhabitants of enroute.
To test the physical and mental stamina of their warriors, IAF conducts such activities on regular. It gives an opportunity to them to understand the topography of the areas and their challenge in inhospitable terrain. Trekking in the inhospitable mountain range of Kumaon Himalayas, offers first hand opportunity to the air warriors to understand the challenges of high altitude operations, where they can be deployed for air borne operations or during natural calamities. The expedition will make them more conversant and confident while operating in hostile environment and terrain.
