Govt reduced 2% cess on petrol and diesel: Sec Finance

DAINIK NATION BUREAU
Following on the advise of Union Finance Minister Arun Jailtely to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel, Uttarakhand government may reduce VAT on petrol and diesel by two percent. With this deduction prices of petrol and diesel may be cheaper in the state. Talking to dainiknation, the secretary finance Amit Negi said that we had abolished two percent cess from petrol and diesel. It was being collected by two percent so media might have taken this as reduction on VAT

if this happens then Uttarakhand would become third state after Gujarat and Maharashtra government, which have reduced VAT on petrol and diesel by two percent. As we know that during last GST council meeting union finance Minister Arun Jaitley had appealed to the state to reduce their VAT on petrol and diesel. By curtailing it state can give solace to the people from price rise.

As we know that as prices of crude oil started moving north ward then petroleum companies were bound to increase their price and it had reached to Rs 75 per litre petrol in the Uttarakhand. Due to this reason people were getting disappointed with the BJP led state government because of increasing price of petrol and diesel on day to day basis. Recently union government had also cut their excise duty from petrol and diesel. By doing this they had given cushion to the petroleum companies which is why they have delayed the price revision for last few days.
