A tiny village has produced pea worth of Rs 1.5 cr

DAINIK NATION BUREAU

Following on the principle of that there is way where is will, chamoli district’s ghes villagers have grown pea worth of Rs 1.5 crore in less than three month. last year they had produced mere worth of Rs seven lakh but this year they have produced bumper crop of pea. with this cultivation they have created new slogan i.e. Ghes se sikhega desh (nation will learn from ghes). We can say that it is not less than pea revolution by seeing their bumper crop. By doing this they have presented an example before the other villagers, who have been shirking their responsibility by saying that their crop being destroyed by monkey and wild boar so they deserted their land and village too.

As we know that villagers had produced pea wroth of Rs seven lakh but this year they have grown pea worth of Rs 1.5 crore. the pea they have produced in less than three months. with this production they have sent message across the country, who curse their government for lack of employement opportunity in their nearby areas and leave their village in search of better pasture. Seeing the bumper crop chief minister trivendra singh rawat has decided to be with the farmers while harvesting of the pea on October 10. As CM is suppose to visit tharali assembly costituency of the chamoli dsitrict on October 9.

it would be pertinent to mention here that Dewal block is remotest block of chamoli district. the ghes village was named after Ghes valley and it spreads in other villages like himani, Balaan, Bhirkuti, Bahtara, Sarmata, Bhattara, Pinau etc. More than 2000 people lives in these village and earn their livelihood by ploughing their agriculture land. Due to its tough geographical condition there is a proverb that ‘ghes se aage nahi hai koi desh (nothing is left after ghes)’. As villagers had to travel 50 kilometer to reach ghes from dewal block. people had carry their commodities over their back. To get education and medical aid they have to travel upto dewal block. Now they have turned their proverb with new one i.e. ghes se sikhega desh (nation will learn from ghes). Now road have reached upto the himani village, which is after ghes village. even ghes high school has been upgraded as inter college around six months ago but no teachers have been appointed for the inter college.

As we know that since inception of Utttarakhand, ghes villagers had started cultivation of medicinal plants. former Pradhan Keshar singh Bisht said that with the help of Garhwal university their village become first village of state which cultivated medicinal plant. they cultivate atis, kutki, jatamasi, van tulsi etc and made good profit out of it. in view of this state government had started developing as ayush gram in the year 2013 but the decision is yet to come out from the file. Although villagers had offered 80 nali (a unit of measurement in the hills) to the ayush department in 2013.

As we know that policy maker had short listed the village for Ayush gram but yet to see any progress in this regard. By producing bumper crop of pea people have shown mirror to the system. Now villagers are saying that if government helps villager properly then people would not desert their village in search of better opportunity. with this village would flourish and eventually state would flourish.

Urmila Bisht, a resident of ghes village of Dewal block, says that the village has presented an example before the country that by doing intensive labour you can grow gold from your land. Despite having inimical condition block people have cultivated bumper crop of pea. Besides Dewal, people of Sawad, Kuling, Didna, Harni villges of Chamoli districts are also cultivating pea on their land. with these crop harvesting farmers would become independent and will lure other people who have deserted their land in search of better option to return to their village.

Although she expressed regret over the government because they are yet to open a procurement centre here nor yet they declared Minimum Support Price (MSP) of the pea. if they would have opened it then farmers might have got more benefit by selling their produce. She demanded that government should start procedure to develop ghes village as Ayush gram. As it was short listed in the year 2013 when Vijay Bahuguna was chief minister of the state.  For this they should impart training programme for the farmers so that they can cultivate herbal as model village of the state.
