Army driver arrested for killing wife

Police claimed to have cracked the mystery of the murder of a woman whose body was found in Bhujiyaghat in Haldwani after arresting her husband for the crime. Police said that Anil Kumar, who works as a driver in the Indian Army and is posted in Haldwani Cantt, was angry over his wife delivering a girl eight months ago and also suspected her of infidelity.

The body of the victim, Nishi, who was a constable in the UP Police department, was found on August 5. Police said that Kumar and his relative Chiranjilaal allegedly choked the victim to death with a rope while she was visiting them in Haldwani. The duo wrapped the body in a bedsheet and threw it in Bhujiyaghat. Later, Kumar filed a complaint with police that his wife had not returned from the market. Police said that Kumar broke down during questioning and confessed his crime. Post-mortem has confirmed asphyxia as the cause of death.
