A leopard captured on Tuesday morning in a cage set up at Srikot village under the Pokhra range of the Garhwal Forest Division, days after a four-year-old girl was killed in a leopard attack in the area.

According to officials, a veterinary team will now conduct necessary medical examinations and collect samples to confirm whether the leopard is a man-eater. The animal’s age and gender will also be determined during the health check-up.

Following the fatal incident, the district administration and forest department swung into action. As per District Magistrate Swati S. Bhadauria, drone cameras, trap cameras, and tranquilizer snipers were deployed after due permission from the Forest Conservator and Chief Wildlife Warden. Continuous patrolling by forest teams, combined with public cooperation, played a key role in the operation’s success.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Jeevan Mohan Dagade informed that the leopard was trapped in a cage installed about 30 meters from the attack site. He confirmed that further examination of the animal is underway.

Officials said that the coordinated efforts of the administration, forest department, and local residents ensured the safe capture of the leopard, bringing much-needed relief to the panic-stricken villagers.
