Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday formally inaugurated the beautification, grand transformation, and automatic lighting of the iconic Clock Tower (Ghantaghar) in Dehradun, giving the historic landmark a new and vibrant identity.
Alongside the unveiling of the refurbished Clock Tower, the Chief Minister also inaugurated four modern Hilance-cum-Kitchen outlets, established for women self-help groups (SHGs). The initiative is aimed at boosting women empowerment, self-employment, and the promotion of local hill products.
Addressing the gathering, CM Dhami said, “Ghantaghar is the identity of Dehradun. Its new and attractive look will not only attract tourists but also instill pride among the city’s residents. With automatic lighting, the landmark will remain lively even at night and will add charm to the city’s nightlife.”
He further emphasized that such projects enhance not just the city’s beauty but also foster cleanliness, heritage conservation, and civic responsibility among citizens. The transformation project has been completed at a cost of around ₹1.5 crore, giving the historic monument a grand and modern look.
The revamped Clock Tower is now expected to emerge as a major tourist attraction and a symbol of Dehradun’s cultural pride.
