The Union Government’s Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT), which visited disaster-affected areas of Uttarakhand, met Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at the Secretariat on Sunday to present its initial observations.

During the meeting, CM Dhami said Uttarakhand remains highly vulnerable to natural calamities, especially during monsoon, when heavy rains trigger landslides, floods and waterlogging. He stressed the need for national-level institutions to collaborate in strengthening forecasting systems to minimize losses. The Chief Minister pointed out that excessive rainfall this year caused widespread damage to life, property and livelihood, while cloudbursts and landslides left permanent scars on agricultural and residential land, making them unusable. He called for a comprehensive long-term action plan to address such challenges.

The IMCT, led by Joint Secretary (Home Ministry) R. Prasanna, visited disaster-hit districts including Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Pauri Garhwal, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Nainital, where they interacted with affected families and reviewed relief operations. The team appreciated the state government’s swift response, especially the ₹5 lakh immediate relief to bereaved families and those whose homes were destroyed. They also praised the arrangements in relief camps, availability of medical facilities, and the innovative initiative of maintaining health data of pregnant women to ensure safe deliveries.

The team noted concerns about excessive silt accumulation in rivers raising future flood risks and assured that their report to the Centre will include recommendations for long-term mitigation.

Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Additional Chief Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu, Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman and other senior officials were present during the meeting.
