The Lacchiwala toll plaza, one of the busiest entry points into Dehradun, has collected a staggering ₹228.34 crore in revenue over the past four years, according to information obtained through a Right to Information (RTI) query. The figures reflect a steady rise in toll collections year after year, indicating increased vehicular movement and growing traffic towards Uttarakhand’s capital city.
As per the RTI data, in the financial year 2021-22, the toll plaza collected ₹35 crore. The revenue rose sharply to ₹56.96 crore in 2022-23, and further increased to ₹63.85 crore in 2023-24. The current financial year 2024-25 has so far seen collections touch ₹72.53 crore — the highest in the last four years.
The consistent rise in collections highlights both Dehradun’s growing popularity as a tourist and business destination and the expanding road connectivity towards the region. Experts believe the surge in toll revenue is directly linked to the increasing number of vehicles heading towards popular destinations like Mussoorie, Rishikesh, and Char Dham, besides Dehradun itself.
The growing toll collection figures have also sparked discussions on improving infrastructure, easing congestion, and reviewing toll charges. Local residents and frequent travelers have been urging the government for better road management and transparent use of toll revenue for public welfare projects.
The figures reflect Lacchiwala’s importance as a major transit point, and authorities are expected to review future traffic management plans keeping in view the increasing vehicle load and the funds being generated.
