In a determined effort to crack down on illegal madrasas, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has intensified the state’s action. On Thursday, authorities sealed 16 madrasas in Udham Singh Nagar and two in Haridwar, raising the total number of closures to 110. These institutions were operating without government authorization, and the ongoing campaign seeks to eliminate such unregulated establishments.
The action is part of a larger campaign that began a month ago, with the state administration targeting madrasas operating illegally without the necessary permits. In a statement, CM Dhami expressed his commitment to upholding the rule of law, stating that no illegal activity under the guise of religion would be tolerated. He has given full authority to local authorities to take stringent action against these illegal institutions.
The recent sealing includes 4 madrasas in Rudrapur, 8 in Kichha, 3 in Bajpur, 1 in Jaspur, and 2 in Haridwar. Previously, 92 madrasas in Dehradun and Pauri were sealed. The government is also investigating the individuals behind these operations and the type of education being provided at these centers, which are suspected to have been operating outside the legal framework.
CM Dhami’s stance is clear: the state will not allow any entity to undermine its sovereignty under the guise of religion. As the crackdown continues, the authorities are sending a strong message about their commitment to enforcing legal norms and ensuring transparency in educational institutions across Uttarakhand.
