Dehradun witnessed a historic moment on Tuesday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 38th National Games at the Raipur Sports Stadium. While the event was primarily focused on sports, PM Modi seized the opportunity to spotlight Uttarakhand’s immense potential beyond its renowned Char Dham Yatra. In his address, he encouraged winter tourism in the state, branding Uttarakhand as an ideal destination for both faith and adventure.

The Prime Minister remarked, “Uttarakhand cannot rely solely on the Char Dham Yatra. The state must explore new avenues for growth. Winter tourism is essential here. Uttarakhand is my second home, and I personally wish to visit during the winter season. I encourage everyone to experience its adventurous sports and spiritual heritage.”

PM Modi’s repeated visits to Uttarakhand have consistently brought national and global attention to the state. His efforts to promote the Kedarnath Dham have been particularly impactful. Having visited Kedarnath six times as Prime Minister, including an overnight stay during Diwali, Modi’s association with the temple has set unparalleled records for pilgrim footfall. The surge in tourism has not only rebranded Kedarnath but also generated significant employment for the locals.

The Prime Minister’s role as a de facto brand ambassador for Uttarakhand extends beyond Kedarnath. During the ‘Uttarakhand Global Investors Summit’ in December 2023, he introduced the slogan “Wed in Uttarakhand,” promoting the state as a premier destination for weddings. This initiative spurred a rise in destination weddings at iconic locations like Triyuginarayan and Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, drawing couples from across the country.

PM Modi’s October 2023 visit to Adi Kailash in Pithoragarh further amplified Uttarakhand’s cultural appeal. His prayers at Parvati Kund and his visit to the sacred Adi Kailash mountain trended on social media, bringing an influx of tourists and devotees to this remote border region.

With his latest call to promote the winter Char Dham Yatra, Modi has once again put Uttarakhand on the map. His declaration to personally visit during the winter season is expected to give a significant boost to tourism.

Uttarakhand Governor Lt. Gen. Gurmeet Singh and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami echoed the sentiment, expressing gratitude for the Prime Minister’s unwavering support. Uttarakhand, affectionately referred to as “Devbhoomi,” eagerly awaits his next visit, with the promise of further transformation and progress under his guidance.
