DAINIK NATION BUREAU/ALMORA

In anticipation of the upcoming forest fire season, a meeting convened under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Alok Kumar Pandey in the VC room of the Collectorate to discuss strategies for check forest fires and adopting innovative measures. During the meeting, discussions focused on identifying sensitive areas prone to forest fires, ensuring heightened vigilance, and implementing experimental solutions to tackle fire incidents.

The District Magistrate emphasized the need to not only prevent forest fires effectively but also work on an experimental model by selecting a specific sensitive forest area and protecting it using innovative methods. He directed the Executive Engineer of Jal Nigam and officials of Jal Sansthan to map water pipelines passing through forest fire-prone areas. Arrangements for valves and other fittings would be made in these pipelines to ensure an emergency water supply for firefighting. If successful, this model could be replicated in other areas.

Highlighting the significance of forest conservation, Pandey said, “Forests are crucial for our existence, and saving them is our moral responsibility. All officers, from senior administrators to linemen, must actively contribute to this cause.” He also invited suggestions from officials to enhance the strategy.

Prominent attendees included Chief Development Officer Divesh Shasni, Divisional Forest Officer Pradeep Kumar, District Disaster Management Officer Vineet Pal, and Executive Engineer Mohan Singh Rawat.
