53% polling reported in DAV PG college students union election

The 3608 students have sealed the fate of candidates in the student union election of DAV PG College on Thursday but result would come on Friday. Around 53 percent students have exercised their franchise amid the tight security and it is being considered as highest ever in the history of the college. This year Shubham Simalti is the candidate of ABVP while NSUI has fielded Vikas Negi. Rebel group of NSUI have fielded Saurabh Mamgain which could prove costly for the organisation.

 

Amid tight security polling started on a slow note in the morning but later in the day it picked up as students came out to vote in good numbers. Barring minor skirmish outside the college campus the voting went off peacefully. Student supporters of Satyam and Aryan groups clashed outside the college but situation was quickly brought under control.

 

The college authorities had divided the college into two zones and 20 booths were set up for the polls. One zone and ten booths were reserved for girls while boys cast their votes in ten other booths. Only students having identity cards were allowed to enter into the campus.

To check the bar code of the identity card A scanner machine was also placed at the main entrance of the college. Many students with forged identity cards were denied entry with the help of this machine. The Chief Election Officer of the college DK Tyagi said that the elections went off peaceful.

 

DAV PG College is being considered as a citadel of ABVP because they have been winning here for the since 2007 consecutively. In 2006 the NSUI candidate Sangram Singh Pundeer had defeated Jitendra Rawat of ABVP.
