HC asks govt to declare garbage disposal site at village level

The High Court of Uttarakhand has directed the state government to make arrangement for garbage disposal site in every village and town of the state. The high court has also ordered cleaning drives on Sundays and other public holidays in all the local bodies in addition to which the officials concerned have also been directed to ensure stringent implementation of the court’s orders.

The high court has directed that it will be necessary to conduct cleaning in parks, streets and public places in all municipal corporations, municipalities and Nagar Panchayats on every Sunday and on public holidays. The high court issued these directions at a combined hearing on a bunch of petitions including the one filed by Sarnath Seva Mandal, Kashipur about garbage dumping in Dhaila river; by Manoj Bhatt about lack of garbage disposal in Pithoragarh; by Haldwani resident Navin Kapil seeking an electric cremetoriom at Ranibagh; by Puran Joshi seeking solid waste management facility at Gaulapar and a public interest litigation filed by Nafi Ahmed.
