Parent unites to Save KV-FRI

DAINIK NATION BUREAU

The parents united to save the Kendriya Vidhyalaya (KV), Forest Research Institute (FRI) and now decided meet with the union Human Resource Development (HRD) minister Prakash Javdekar  on Thursday. The parents are apprehensive about future of their wards as FRI is pulling its hands off from the operation of the school.

Vijay Giri, who is spearheading the ‘Save K V -FRI’ campaign said that fate of 1400 students of the school hangs in balance due to the arbitrary decision of board of directors of KV -FRI to reduce funding for the school. He said that the school has a glorious past and its alumni are working in prominent positions in various fields. Giri said that the campaign is getting very good support of the parents of the students and old students of the schools. The parents are terming the decision of reducing the grant by FRI to the school as both unfortunate and illegal. “In a recent meeting the boards of directors of the schools have decided to reduce the funding to the school to 24 percent. Their plea is that since the school has only 24 percent students the parents of whom are working in FRI which is against the basic soul of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Kendriya Vidhyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and FRI. We are determined to ensure that the school is not closed,’’ said one of a parent.

The school was established in the year 1950 and was called New Forest School in initial years. In the year 1984 the FRI requested the KVS to take over school and make it is a project school. Under project school priority in admission is given to the organization which in turn provides the funds to the KVS to run the schools. The FRI has now requested the KVS to convert the school from project sector to civil sector. It is learnt that the KVS has not taken any decision on the request yet. Meanwhile the school has stopped new admission in classes I to VI causing concern of closure in the minds of the parents of students of the school.

Incidentally the school was adjusted the best school in India for maintaining cleanliness under Swachch Bharat Abhiyan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
