Cyber crime training centre opens in UK

After inaugurating the state’s first cyber crime training centre at STF Uttarakhand’s office here in Dehradun on Saturday, the state DGP MA Ganapathy said that now onwards, every police station of the state would have at least one cyber-trained officer to deal with the cyber crimes. With this training centre, state police have become self -reliant in providing training to police personnel on how to deal with cases related to cyber crimes, he averred.

 

STF Uttarakhand SSP P Renuka Devi said that the centre aims is to provide training to police officers and police personnel about methods of investigation with the help of technology while dealing with cases related to cyber crimes, now happening thick and fast   across the state.

Investigating officer will be trained about collection of collect evidences on registered cases of cyber crimes, technical analysis, cyber forensic tools and others with   training being held from time to time at the centre, she added.

Once the training is over, the investigation officer will be able to produce technical evidences before the court, she said, adding that earlier, the state police officers and personnel were being sent outside the state to places Noida and Delhi for their training on cyber crimes.

She further said that with the advancement of technology and increase in its accessibility, large numbers of people are using social networking sites and sometimes they indulge in wrongdoing, using the technology, knowingly or unknowingly. Statistics revealed that large numbers of youths are involved in using social networking sites frequently. “Moreover, bank/ATM fraud cases are on the rise. Cases related to false insurance policy, offering false lottery through mobile phones, duping the people on the pretext of providing jobs, and others are being reported daily,” she said.

Particularly fraud cases, including economic fraud and employment frauds through cyber, are on the rise in plain districts- Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital.

The investigation officers will be trained to delve deep into the laws dealing with cyber crimes and the quality of investigation in the registered case will improve much, she said.

While addressing the inspectors and sub-inspectors who were called for training at the centre on the first day, DGP Ganapathy said that with the passage of time, the pattern of crimes has been changing.  Cyber crimes are on the rise and to prevent such cyber crimes in coming days, this cyber crime training centres would prove instrumental roles, he said.

 

In comparison with types of traditional crimes, the cases of cyber crimes are increasing, said the state’s top cop. It has become necessary for the police department to provide training to its police officers and police personnel to minimize such crimes in the state, he added.
