Taking cognizance on the notice, in which Haridwar administration slapped a notice on the Haridwar district BJP president, citing the party did not seek permission for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s February 10 rally in the city, a Congress delegation led by the state PCC president Kishore Upadhyay met the chief electoral officer (CEO) Radha Raturi on Saturday. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi violated the model code of conduct by addressing a poll rally at Rishikul Ground without his party taking prior permission,” said Upadhyay after submitting the complaint. He demanded the ECI to lodge an FIR against the PM. “The letter we served is addressed to the chief election commissioner (CEC) through the state chief electoral officer,” he added. The letter said that the party had learnt about the violation through the media.
The Congress seems to have gone for a tit for tat with the administration having lodged an FIR against AICC vice- president Rahul Gandhi and chief minister Harish Rawat, citing violation of model code of conduct during the party’s Haridwar road-show.
The state Congress chief said that it was intriguing that despite a week having passed since the PM addressed the rally, no case had been lodged so far. “We, however, hope that the election commission would take prompt note of the matter we have mentioned in the letter and go for the step things warrant. We want EC to lodge FIR against the PM as well as against those who organised the rally on behalf of BJP,”
