The Uttarakhand government has issued a notification providing 10 percent horizontal reservation to retired Agniveers in state services. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had earlier announced that the Uttarakhand would lead the way in creating employment opportunities for retired completing.

On Monday, the Department of Personnel and Vigilance notified the Horizontal Reservation Rules – 2025, making retired Agniveers eligible for 10 percent reservation in Group C uniformed posts through direct recruitment.

The provision will cover several important posts, including Police Constable (Civilian/PAC), Sub-Inspector, Platoon Commander PAC, Fireman, Fire Officer II, Prisoner, Deputy Jailor, Forest Guard, Forest Inspector, Excise Constable, Enforcement Constable, and Secretariat Guard.

Given Uttarakhand’s strong military tradition and large ex-servicemen population, the step is being described as a strategic and timely move by the Dhami government. Officials believe it will not only boost the confidence of Agniveers but also enable the state to benefit from their discipline, training, and commitment in key services.

Speaking on the development, CM Dhami said, “Former Agniveers who have served the nation are the pride of Uttarakhand. Providing them respect and employment opportunities is our responsibility. This decision is a concrete step to secure their future, and our government remains committed to supporting ex-servicemen and Agniveers in every way.”

The announcement has received widespread appreciation, with many calling it a progressive initiative that ensures Agniveers are effectively integrated into public service and state governance.
