A mild avalanche occurred in the Chorabari glacier area near Kedarnath on Thursday afternoon. Even government officials have confirmed it and said that it was a routine natural process and there is no cause for concern.
According to District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) Nandan Singh Rajwar, the incident was recorded at around 2 pm. He said avalanches of this nature are common in the Himalayan region due to prevailing weather and natural conditions. “The situation is completely normal. There has been no loss of life or property in the incident,” he assured.
Soon after receiving information, expert teams and disaster management personnel were placed on alert as a precautionary measure. The teams are monitoring the site and assessing the situation on the ground.
Authorities have urged locals and pilgrims not to panic. The DDMO emphasized that such natural occurrences are part of the ecological processes in high-altitude areas. He also appealed to people to refrain from spreading rumours or misinformation regarding the event.
The Kedarnath region, being ecologically sensitive and prone to natural activities such as avalanches and landslides, remains under continuous watch by disaster management authorities, especially during the monsoon season.
