Bad weather may have forced the cancellation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed aerial survey of disaster-affected areas in Uttarakhand on Thursday, but the affected families were still able to convey their pain directly to him—thanks to a special initiative by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

After visiting disaster-hit Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, the Prime Minister reached Uttarakhand for a review meeting. With continuous rainfall grounding the aerial survey, CM Dhami ensured that voices from the worst-hit districts were still heard. District Magistrates were instructed in advance to prepare for such a scenario.

As part of this plan, 24 people from the most affected villages—including Dharali (Uttarkashi), Tharali (Chamoli), Sainj (Pauri), Chenagad (Rudraprayag) and Kapkot (Bageshwar)—were brought to Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun to meet the Prime Minister in person.

The disaster-affected expressed gratitude to CM Dhami for enabling the meeting, calling it a rare opportunity to present their plight directly before the country’s leadership.

In addition, around 57 ‘disaster warriors’ from ITBP, Army, SDRF, NDRF and other volunteer groups, who played a vital role in rescue and relief operations, were also introduced to the Prime Minister. PM Modi praised their courage and commitment, commending their service to the people of Uttarakhand.

The move has been widely appreciated as an example of the state government’s proactive approach in ensuring both relief measures and recognition of efforts during the ongoing crisis.
