In a bid to boost disaster preparedness, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday formally inaugurated 13 long-range modern sirens installed at Thana Dalanwala, Dehradun. The advanced system is aimed at strengthening the state’s disaster management capacity and ensuring timely alerts for citizens in vulnerable areas.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Dhami said Uttarakhand, being a disaster-prone hilly state, faces recurring threats from landslides, floods, cloudbursts, and earthquakes. He emphasized that timely vigilance and information dissemination are crucial to minimize losses. “These state-of-the-art sirens with a range of 8 to 16 km will not only alert us during natural disasters but also serve as an important tool for civil security,” he added.
The Chief Minister underlined that early warning systems can significantly reduce loss of life and property while enabling quicker and more effective relief operations. He directed officials to conduct regular testing of the system and spread public awareness to ensure its maximum utility.
During the event, CM Dhami also inspected the Bal Thana at Dalanwala Police Station and received cheques contributed by retired police personnel, Uttarakhand PCS Association, and Uttarakhand Police staff for the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.
Cabinet Ministers Ganesh Joshi and Subodh Uniyal, MLA Khajan Das, senior police and disaster management officials, and local representatives were also present.
