Taking swift action on a viral social media post threatening Kashmiri youth, Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth has directed all district police chiefs to ensure the safety of Kashmiri students studying across the state. This move comes in the wake of the recent Pahalgam incident, which has raised security concerns.
Police have identified locations where Kashmiri students reside or pursue their education. Local police units are maintaining regular contact with educational institutions and the students to address their safety concerns and offer reassurance.
Authorities are also closely monitoring social media platforms for any objectionable or inflammatory content. So far, 25 such posts have been removed, and an FIR has been registered against the individual responsible for issuing the threat.
The DGP confirmed that all 1,665 Kashmiri students currently studying in Uttarakhand are safe, and continuous surveillance is being maintained to ensure their well-being. The state police remain committed to protecting the rights and security of every individual and have urged the public to refrain from sharing divisive content online.
This prompt action highlights the Uttarakhand Police’s dedication to communal harmony and the safety of all students in the state.
