A doctor couple from Kota has taken an eco-friendly step by distributing unique wedding invitations for their son’s marriage. Instead of traditional paper cards that often contribute to waste, Dr. Girish Chandra Sharma and Dr. Rashmi Tiwari opted for a sustainable alternative. They printed the wedding invite on cloth, which can be reused as a handkerchief after washing. This thoughtful gesture not only reduces environmental impact but also promotes the idea of zero-waste celebrations. The innovative invite has garnered appreciation for blending tradition with environmental consciousness.
The couple, who live in Rangbari Yojana, have set a new example by adopting sustainability for their son Gauri Gautam’s wedding. “We were concerned that traditional wedding cards, especially those with images of deities or sacred symbols, are often discarded, which can hurt religious sentiments and add to environmental pollution,” said Dr. Sharma. Inspired by their concerns, the couple researched online and came across a firm in Pune, Maharashtra, which offered a perfect solution — washable fabric invitation cards.
The result? A 1.5 ft x 1.5 ft card printed on fine-quality fabric using temporary ink. The ink fades away completely after two washes, leaving behind a clean, soft handkerchief. The cards, priced at just ₹37 each — roughly the same cost as traditional printed invitations — have been highly appreciated by friends, family, and well-wishers across Rajasthan.
Each invite is not just a token of celebration but also a gentle nudge toward responsible consumption. “This way, no one has to worry about disrespecting religious symbols, and the card continues to be useful even after the event,” said Dr. Tiwari. The initiative is gaining popularity, with people calling it a potential future trend in Indian weddings.
As the wedding ceremony is set to take place today, the couple’s thoughtful approach has already made a lasting impression. Social media users and environmentalists alike have praised the idea, suggesting that such small yet significant steps can bring about a big change in wedding traditions.
With the growing awareness around sustainability, this unique eco-friendly wedding card from Kota may very well inspire many more to rethink how we celebrate our most special moments — without harming the planet or our beliefs.
