With traditional rituals and deep devotion, the auspicious “Gadu Ghada Yatra” commenced today from the Raj darbar of Narendranagar for the Shri Badrinath Dham. This revered journey carries silver urns filled with sesame oil, traditionally used for the Abhishek and Akhand Jyoti of Lord Badri Vishal.
The sacred oil was prepared earlier in the morning by married women dressed in yellow attire, who pounded sesame seeds in mortars and extracted the oil by hand, following centuries-old customs. This pure oil will anoint the idol of Lord Badrivishal when the shrine’s doors open.
In the evening, Maharaja Shri Manujyendra Shah of the Tehri royal family and MP Maharani Smt. Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah performed Puja-Archana with age-old royal traditions and formally dispatched the Gadu Ghada to Shri Badrinath Dham.
The first stop of the yatra will be Chela Chetram Dharamshala in Rishikesh, where it will arrive late at night. Dr. Harish Gaur, Media In-Charge of BKTC, informed that Shri Dimri Dharmik Central Panchayat officials and members reached Rishikesh on 21 April from Dimmar village and gathered at Narendranagar Rajdarbar on 22 April.
From 23 April morning, devotees will have the opportunity for darshan and worship of the Gadu Ghada at Chela Chetram Dharamshala. Prasad distribution will also take place for visiting devotees.
On the afternoon of 23 April, the Yatra will move towards Shri Shatrughan Temple, Muni Ki Reti, before proceeding through various religious halts. The holy procession is scheduled to reach the sacred Shri Badrinath Dham by the evening of 3 May.
The temple doors will officially open for devotees at 6 am on 4 May, marking the start of this year’s pilgrimage season. Rajpurohit Shri Krishna Prasad Uniyal, priests, devotees, and Panchayat officials were present on this sacred occasion.
