A new twist has emerged in the ongoing dispute between Chamoli District Magistrate (DM) and District Excise Officer (DEO) Durgeshwar Kumar Tripathi. A missing report has been filed at Gopeshwar police station regarding the sudden disappearance of the Excise Officer.

Patwari Chandra Singh Butola from the Papdiana Revenue Area of Gopeshwar Nagar filed the report, urging police to locate the missing officer. Following the complaint, police have launched a search operation to trace Tripathi.

The controversy began on Tuesday when Chamoli DM conducted a surprise inspection at the Excise Department and found three employees, including the DEO, absent from duty. In response, the DM took strict action, withholding one day’s salary and initiating service breaks for all three employees. Following this, Tripathi bypassed his senior officials and directly submitted a complaint to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, alleging misconduct and abuse by the DM.

However, the situation took a dramatic turn as reports surfaced that Tripathi has been missing since March 31. According to the complaint lodged by Revenue Sub-Inspector Chandra Singh Butola, the Excise Officer, aged 55 and a resident of Kund Colony, Gopeshwar, has been out of contact since 10:00 AM on March 31. Authorities have searched his residence and office but have found no trace of him.

Police have intensified efforts to locate the missing officer. Meanwhile, the development has sparked speculation, adding further complexity to the ongoing dispute. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward as investigations continue.
