CM Dhami Honors Women Achievers on IWD, Flags Off Women Drivers Under Mahila Sarathi Project

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has felicitated women who have excelled in various fields on occasion of International Women’s Day here in Dehradun on Saturday. The CM honoured women including Reshma Shah, Bharti, Councilor Anjana Rawat, Bina, Rekha Pandey, Mamta, Sarita Panwar and several others for their outstanding contributions to society.

On this occasion, the CM also flagged off women drivers under the Mahila Sarathi (Pilot Project) aimed at promoting women’s empowerment and self-reliance in the state. Addressing the gathering, he extended his best wishes on International Women’s Day and praised the remarkable achievements of women in education, medicine, politics, sports, science, agriculture, and industry.

The Chief Minister emphasized that women in Uttarakhand have always exhibited extraordinary leadership, dedication, and hard work, contributing significantly to family, society, and the economy. He assured that the state government will continue working with full commitment towards the empowerment and protection of women.

Highlighting the government’s efforts, the Chief Minister said that Uttarakhand became the first state in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), ensuring strong legal protection for women. He said the UCC would safeguard women’s rights, especially in marriage, divorce, and inheritance matters. The Chief Minister also expressed concern over the growing trend of live-in relationships, stating that such practices are not part of Indian culture and urged parents and the administration to remain vigilant to avoid any untoward incidents.

Praising the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister mentioned that over the last 11 years, more than 30 crore Jan-Dhan accounts have been opened for women, 12 crore toilets have been built to protect the dignity of women, and 1 crore women are being financially empowered through the Lakhpati Didi Yojana. Additionally, over 30 crore women have received loans under the Mudra Yojana, promoting financial independence.

The Chief Minister also highlighted state-specific initiatives like the Nanda Gaura Yojana, under which Rs 11,000 is given on the birth of a girl child and Rs 51,000 is provided after passing class 12th. Additionally, the Empowered Bahana Utsav Yojana, Chief Minister Women Self Help Group Empowerment Scheme, and One Stop Centers for women safety and rehabilitation have significantly boosted women’s empowerment in the state.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the government is committed to providing 30% horizontal reservation for Uttarakhand daughters in government jobs, ensuring maximum participation of women in government, enterprise, and sports. The event witnessed the participation of several dignitaries, women achievers, and local residents, making it a remarkable celebration of women’s power and contribution to society.
