CM Dhami Directs Officials to Launch Green Chardham Yatra Campaign

To review the preparation for upcoming Char Dham Yatra Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has convened a meeting here in secretariat on Monday. During the meeting CM has categorically asked the officials to complete all necessary arrangements before beginning of yatra season. He also instructed the officials to ensure proper infrastructure for road connectivity, drinking water, electricity, health facilities and traffic management during the Yatra season.

The Chief Minister also proposed the launch of a Green Chardham Yatra campaign to promote environmental sustainability during the pilgrimage. He stressed the need for ensuring cleanliness on the travel routes and directed officials to set up adequate pink toilets along the Yatra path for women travelers. Additionally, the CM instructed public representatives and officials to actively participate in the cleanliness campaign to maintain hygiene standards.

Highlighting the economic and religious significance of the Chardham Yatra, CM Dhami said, “Chardham Yatra is the lifeline of the state’s economy and a center of faith for the world. The administration must work on every front to make the journey smooth and hassle-free for the devotees.”

Addressing the issue of black marketing of helicopter tickets, the Chief Minister ordered strict vigilance and warned of severe action against those found guilty of black marketing. He also directed the Animal Husbandry Department to conduct health tests for horses and mules on time and ensure adequate arrangements for their food and water.

The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of road widening and completing pending road construction work before the commencement of the Yatra. He directed the concerned departments to ensure no unnecessary stoppage of devotees on travel routes and, if required, provide them with all basic amenities during halts. Additionally, arrangements for health screening tests for devotees were also emphasized.

CM Dhami also instructed the officials to start preparing a Master Plan for winter travel destinations in the state, including Gangotri and Yamunotri, to boost tourism beyond the Chardham Yatra season. He also directed the administration to start preparations for the upcoming Nanda Raj Jat Yatra in 2026 and Kumbh Mela in 2027.

The Chief Minister further suggested that IAS, IPS, and PCS officers adopt the areas where they first started their jobs and contribute to their development by addressing public grievances and improving public infrastructure. He urged them to stay overnight in their adopted areas to get a firsthand experience of the challenges faced by the locals.

The meeting was attended by Cabinet Ministers Satpal Maharaj, Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, Minister of State Vishwas Dabur, Additional Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu, Secretary R. Meenakshi Sundaram, senior police officials, department heads, and District Magistrates from Chardham Yatra-connected districts through a virtual medium.
