DAINIK NATION BUREAU/Dehradun: In a bid to educate people about rising threat of cyber crime the PRSI, Dehradun Chapter, organized a conference Cyber crime and Misinformation: Challenges and Solutions here in Dehradun on Sunday. The program commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony.
In his address as Chief Guest and Joint Director of the DIPR Dr. Nitin Upadhyay, emphasized responsible behavior when sharing information on social media. He advocated for a thoughtful approach with the mantra, “Think before you share, think before you care”, and introduced the AAA plan—Awareness, Advocacy, and Action—to combat fake news and misinformation. He urged attendees to prioritize accuracy over speed in sharing information.
DySP Ankush Mishra, Cyber Crime Station, provided in-depth insights into various forms of cyber crime, including deep fakes, phishing, investment fraud, SIM upgrade fraud, and AI-based voice cloning. He highlighted the importance of awareness in preventing cyber crime and mentioned the National Cyber Crime Helpline (1930) as a 24×7 service for registering complaints related to cyber fraud. He also shared best practices for safeguarding personal information, such as locking Aadhaar biometrics and verifying helpline numbers from official sources.
Ishan Bhushan, Assistant Manager of Corporate Communication at THDC, discussed the pervasive influence of big data and the role of smartphones in spreading misinformation. He stressed the importance of constant vigilance and introduced tools for verifying information sources.
PRSI (Public Relations Society of India) Dehradun President, Ravi Bijaraniya, expressed gratitude to all participants and reiterated the organization’s commitment to conducting similar awareness programs in the future. The event was attended by Vice President Dr. Amarnath Tripathi, Secretary Anil Sati, and several other dignitaries and media representatives. Anil Verma moderated the program.
