Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the growing concern of obesity, a global issue, while addressing the nation at the inauguration of the 38th National Games in Dehradun. Calling obesity a rising health threat in India, PM Modi emphasized its impact on all age groups, particularly the youth, and the associated risks of chronic diseases like diabetes and heart conditions.
Expressing satisfaction over the success of the Fit India Movement, PM Modi said, “These National Games remind us of the importance of physical activity, discipline, and a balanced lifestyle. I urge all citizens to focus on two key aspects: exercise and diet. Dedicate time daily to physical activity—be it walking, running, or working out—and prioritize a nutritious, balanced diet.”
The Prime Minister also proposed practical steps to promote healthy eating habits. “Reduce unhealthy fats and oils in your diet. For example, if your household uses two liters of cooking oil every month, reduce it by 10 percent. Small changes like these can lead to significant health improvements,” he added.
Drawing inspiration from traditional lifestyles, PM Modi urged citizens to follow the practices of elders who relied on fresh, natural, and balanced diets. He stressed the importance of a healthy body in building a healthy mind and a strong nation.
PM Modi also called upon state governments, schools, offices, and community leaders to amplify awareness about fitness and nutrition. “Practical experience can help in spreading the message of correct nutrition. Let’s all work together to create a ‘Fit India,’” he concluded.
The Prime Minister’s message underscores the growing need for collective efforts to combat obesity and build a healthier nation. His practical and actionable advice aims to inspire individuals and communities to prioritize fitness and well-being.
