Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Union Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, officially entered the electoral fray for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections-2024 by filing his nomination papers from the Lucknow seat on Monday.
Rajnath singh was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Singh embarked on a two-kilometer roadshow in the city before proceeding to file his nomination papers. Before this, he also paid a visit to the Dakshin Mukhi Hanuman Temple in Lucknow to offer prayers.
The upcoming fifth phase of elections, scheduled for May 20, will witness Lucknow, along with thirteen other constituencies, participating in the voting process.
Rajnath Singh secured victory in 2019 with nearly 630,000 votes, surpassing Samajwadi Party’s Poonam Shatrughan Sinha. This marked a significant increase from his 2014 win, where he triumphed over Congress candidate Rita Bahuguna Joshi by a margin of 272,000 votes.
