With Lok Sabha Election 2024 approaching, schools and colleges in various states and union territories are set to close on April 19th, the day of the first phase of voting.
This closure aligns with the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) seven-phase election schedule, with voting dates on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1. Vote counting is scheduled for June 4.
The closure of educational institutions on polling days allows for the efficient setup of voting booths, ensuring a smooth and safe voting process. Additionally, schools and colleges serving as polling stations may also close a few days before elections, particularly in sensitive areas, to prioritize student safety.
