Heavy snowfall expected in next 24 hours

Following on the warning issued by the meteorological centre about the possibility of heavy snowfall in some parts of five districts during the next 24 hours, the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) has issued an alert on Tuesday.

Taking cognizance on the warning three districts DMs i.e. Chamoli, Pauri and Dehradun have declared closure of schools on Wednesday.

As per information from the SEOC on Tuesday, some places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Dehradun, Nainital and Pithoragarh districts are likely to experience heavy snowfall during the next 24 hours.

During the same time period, some places especiall in districts including Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar are forecast to experience hail.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, roads and highways including those to Gangotri and Yamunotri in Uttarkashi district were blocked to traffic due to heavy snowfall. Accidents due to inclement weather were also reported from some parts of the State.
