Vice President M.Venkaiah Naidu said today that one should always remember and respect mother, motherland and mother tongue. Mother tongue was like our eyes while a foreign language was like spectacles. While there is no harm in learning other languages, one should always respect one’s mother tongue which can help us express ourselves in a way in which other languages cannot. Primary education should be given to children in their mother tongue.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the second convocation of the Swami Rama Himalayan University. Congratulating those who received degrees and medals, he said that there was no alternative to hard work and discipline. He said we should be proud of our traditions and culture which had at its heart the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the whole world is a family) .
The aim of education was not just to help us find employment. Education enlightens our minds and makes us aware of our culture and values. Medical profession was indeed noble. He said that for building a new India, skill India, Beti bachao-Beti Padhao, Swachh Bharat, Make in India, Digital India and other such missions had been started by the government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given the mantra of Reform, Perform and Transform.
For convocation university had enforced dress code. Saffron colour was clear cut visible during convocation. Boys were sporting white kurta and pajama while girls were in saari. During convocation vice president felicitated the six toppers of different streams of the university. 802 students were awarded degree by the vice president, governor, chief minister and vice chancellor of the university.
