Uttarakhand Governor Dr KK Paul and Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat flagged off from the Vidhan Sabha the Run for Unity on the occasion of Sardar Patel’s Jayanti today. The Governor and CM participated in the run. Earlier, the Governor and CM garlanded the statue of Sardar Patel near Clock Tower and paid their homage.
The run concluded at Police Lines where a programme was held. At this programme, the Governor made all participants and all others present take an oath of national unity and integrity. The entire country was paying homage to the “Iron Man” on his birth anniversary by the run for unity. Any country could progress only if it remembered and valued the contribution of its great leaders .When 130 Crore people resolve to protect the unity of the country, it would be difficult for anyone to think of harming that country.
It was Sardar Patel’s will power, political vision and farsightedness that helped unify the country when it became independent and had more than 500 “riyasats”. Only for the Hyderabad Riyasat , an army unit had to be sent.
The title of “Sardar” was given to this great leader when he held a satyagrah in Bardoli during the freedom struggle. For his strong will power and resolve, he was also given the name of “Iron Man”.
He said that it was wonderful to see the energy and enthusiasm of school and college students who were participating in the run and it showed their talent and intelligence. Dedication and hard work were the keys to success.We must all work towards maintaining the unity of our country with its diverse cultures and traditions. ”Indianness is our identity”, he said.
The chief minister said that the entire country was celebrating the birth anniversary of this great leader who was the first home minister of independent India and also its Deputy Prime Minister.
He said our youth must take inspiration from Sardar Patel’s life and move forward. He said schools must give detailed information to students about the lives and works of our leaders on occasions of their birth anniversaries.
The Run for Unity started from Vidhan Sabha Bhavan and concluded at Police Lines after going to Pavilion Ground,Kisaan Bhavan and Nagar Nigam.Present on the occasion were Sports and education minister Arvind Pandey, higher education minister Dhan Singh Rawat, Mayor/MLA Vinod Chamoli, MLA Harbans Kapoor, MLA Khajan Das, chief secretary Utpal Kumar Singh, DGPAnil Raturi and several other eminent persons.
