Strange but true that state government is consistently claiming that they would ensure development or benefit of the government scheme should reach upto the last village of the state but Pithoragarh district residents are surviving only on locally grown potatoes and rice for the last few months. It has happened because connecting road washed away due to incessant rain and it has badly hit the supply of essential commodities in these villages. Although district administration expressed unawareness about such scarcity and now ordered probe on it.
Golpha villagers are demanding restoration of the 10 km streth between Golpha and Madkot, where they were receiving essential supply earlier. It is situated in newly constituted Bangapani sub-division near the Indo-China border, Golpha has not received PDS supplies since August because connecting road got damaged during Monsoon this year.
Villagers say that we have been forced to do agitation at the sub-divisional headquarters, as our children have not tasted roti and salt for the last two months. We are surviving only on homegrown potatoes and rice as no supply of essentials like wheat, salt or onion, are reaching the village.
Meanwhile, Pithoragarh District administration has expressed unawareness about this. DM C Ravishankar says “I have ordered an inquiry against the officers concerned and also instructed the PWD to repair the route in next one week.”
As per the locals, meanwhile five families have deserted the village due to non-availability of ration for the last two months and have no possibility of the route being repaired in the near future. The Food & Civil supply department official has acknowledged that Since August we could not dispatch ration of these village because of connectivity issue.
No PDS shop dealer from Golpha has come to lift their ration since august as it cannot be carried beyond Danibagar bridge due to blockage of the route to the village. Even mules cannot take ration to the village.
