High tension wire falls on bus in Almora killing 2

Two died and several injured as a private bus they were travelling in caught fire after an 11,000 volt high tension wire fell on it in Marchula in Almora district on Wednesday. The bus travelling from Goli Khal in Pauri district to Nainitalwas with 25 people on board to a wedding party. Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited has set up an inquiry into the matter.

The injured were taken to a government hospital in Ramnagar where Jaubuli Devi (68), a resident of Pauri district, and Puranchand (45), from Almoradistrict died.

The wire fell on the bus at 9am when it had stopped for refreshments. While many passengers had deboarded some remained seated.
P Renuka Devi, senior superintendent of police, said, “We have registered an FIR against the electricity department under section 304A (causing death by negligence).”
