As part of the BJP central leadership’s strategy to use the ‘misdeeds’ of the former Congress regimes with particular stress on the purported excess committed during the Internal Emergency, the state party leadership has decided to felicitate those who were detained from the state during that time of the Internal Emergency under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act and the Defence of India Act promulgated to put the agitators behind bars. This has been disclosed through a press note issued by the state BJP president Ajay Bhatt on Tuesday.
Bhatt mentioned in the press note that he had proposed the same to the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. According to him, the felicitation would not just honour those crusaders for democracy but would make aware those who are not acquainted with the black era unleashed by then Congress government at the Centre by sending all who dared raise voice against the authoritarian regime behind the prison bars under the draconian MISA Act and the DIA Act. He further said that the CM had accepted his proposal.
