Uttarakhand Clinches Silver in Thrilling Beach Handball Final

Uttarakhand secured the silver medal in the men’s beach handball event after a nail-biting contest against the Services team in final at the 38th National Games. The match, held on the picturesque sand beach in Shivpuri, Tehri, was a rollercoaster of emotions, showcasing remarkable skill and determination from both sides.

Uttarakhand got off to a stellar start, dominating the first set with a narrow 21-18 victory, fueled by their aggressive play and strategic teamwork. However, the Services team regrouped and mounted a formidable comeback in the second set, overpowering Uttarakhand 17-11. With both teams winning a set each, the match entered a high-pressure shootout.

In the final moments, Services edged out Uttarakhand with a 5-4 lead in the shootout, clinching the gold medal with a 2-1 overall score. Despite the loss, Uttarakhand’s performance was nothing short of extraordinary, with Sumit emerging as the standout player, scoring an impressive 14 goals. His exceptional skills and unwavering determination kept Uttarakhand competitive throughout the game.

This silver medal adds to Uttarakhand’s growing medal tally at the National Games, which now stands at nine – one gold (Wushu), two silver (Wushu and Beach Handball), and six bronze (Wushu). The state’s impressive performance across various sports highlights its increasing prominence on the national sports stage.
