Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, is set to take charge of AAP’s Lok Sabha campaign in Delhi and other states. She will start a roadshow on Saturday in support of the party’s East Delhi candidate Kuldeep Kumar. Atishi, a senior AAP leader, announced this during a press conference, highlighting Sunita’s role in seeking votes and blessings for the party while her husband remains in judicial custody.
Expressing protest against Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest, Atishi stated that Sunita will campaign across Delhi, Punjab, Gujarat, and Haryana to garner support for AAP candidates. Sunita’s upcoming roadshows in East Delhi and West Delhi constituencies aim to rally public backing for Kejriwal and the party amidst the ongoing legal proceedings. Sunita, a retired IRS officer, is stepping up her involvement in AAP’s campaigning efforts to compensate for Kejriwal’s absence, following his arrest in March on charges of money laundering.
Atishi accused the BJP of orchestrating Kejriwal’s arrest to impede his participation in the election campaign. She emphasized the public’s discontent with the arrest, viewing it as an assault on democracy and an act of authoritarianism by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. Atishi affirmed that the people’s response to Kejriwal’s detention would be reflected in their votes.
The AAP, contesting in alliance with the Congress in Delhi, has fielded candidates in several constituencies across Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, and Punjab. Sunita’s increasing role in AAP’s campaign strategy underscores the party’s determination to maintain momentum despite Kejriwal’s legal troubles. She has been actively communicating Kejriwal’s messages to AAP members and supporters, and has also participated in rallies organized by the INDIA parties, advocating for the AAP’s promises if voted to power.
