A ‘Junior Traffic Force’ (JTF) comprised of school students formed on the occasion of the 30th National Road Safety Week 2019  in Dehradun on Wednesday. This was disclosed in the presence of Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. Later CM launched  an audiovisual clip made about the traffic rules and road safety awareness during the event.

JTF comprising 324 students from 50 schools and they will help the traffic police of the city. Police said that students from class 8th to 12th have been included with an intention to raise road safety awareness among the youngsters. They would help the traffic police twice a week.

In his address, CM said, “I am sharing my own experiences and the best examples of traffic safety. While travelling in the foreign countries, I found the people following the traffic rules strictly. To mitigate the accidents, we should follow traffic rules too. Most of the times, the young people are injured and killed because of their carelessness while on the road. It is very hard to express the plight of the families who lose their dear ones in road accidents. We can check accidents through awareness. Let us start the change from ourselves and then we will be able to change others.”

The DGP Anil K Raturi, said, “We have noticed an exaggerated sense of adventure especially among the youth. This is a very good sign but overseending on the road is not an adventure. Everyone should understand the value of the life,”

DGP, Law and order, Ashok Kumar said, “We have penalised around 16,000 vehicles out of 24,000 registered vehicles in 2018 in the city. If this figure goes down this year then it would be great success for us. To achieve the challenge we have been doing so.”

The JTF members said “We will try our best to make the people realise that rash driving causes an accident. Besides, running from police when they are stopped for breaking any rule invites mishaps.”
