Joshimath in the Chamoli district which houses the fabled Badrinath shrine has displayed an exemplary communal harmony with  Eid Ul Juha (also known as Bakrid)  being celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm at a Gurudwara on Saturday. Observers say that the people of the place where the famous shrine is housed have sent a  message of them craving to live together while allowing all faiths to thrive in glory. “This is what the soul of Hinduism as enshrined in its hoariest scriptures- proclaims-taking all in its all-embracing bosom and rejecting none because of its differences in the mode of  prayer,” said an old priest presiding over the rituals in a famous temple in Dehradun

As per the practice continuing for years, the mass Id  prayer was supposed to be held at Gandhi Maidan. But as  it was raining the site of the  prayer was shifted  inside the gurudwara with the initiative taken by the   gurudwara management committee.  The Muslim community  people accepted the gesture and prayed  from inside the gurudwara. They reciprocated by praying to the God (Allah) for unity, integrity, peace and harmony among the people of the country. Their religious head known as Imam appealed to them to celebrate it in a peaceful manner and be ready to help others all the while.  A visibly emotional namaji said that the gesture of  GMC would go a long way in further strengthening the inter-religious bond. After the  namaj was over they were found hugging their Hindu and Sikh brethren while distrusting sweets and the like, a spectacle that spoke volume of the assimilative heritage that is being nurtured in the land from time immemorial.
