CM Dhami to Extend Accident Insurance Benefits to Private Bus Passengers too

DAINIK NATION BUREAU/DEHRADUN: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has decided to ensure financial security for passengers traveling in private buses in Uttarakhand. He has directed to the Transport Secretary to submit a proposal within 10 days to bring uniformity in accident compensation for passengers of both government and private buses.

Currently, passengers traveling in Uttarakhand Transport Corporation buses are entitled to get compensation of ₹10 lakh in case of an accident—₹5 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Discretionary Fund and the Road Safety Fund, as well as from the corporation’s accident compensation scheme. Following the CM’s directive, this benefit will now be extended to private bus passengers, ensuring equal relief for their families.

“Road accidents bring unimaginable pain to affected families. There should be no disparity in the relief provided to victims, whether they travel in government or private buses,” CM Dhami emphasized.

In addition to addressing compensation, the Chief Minister Dhami directed the Transport Department to present a comprehensive Road Safety Manual in the upcoming cabinet meeting. He also called for enhanced road enforcement measures, expedited installation of crash barriers, stricter fitness checks for buses, and mandatory driving and health tests for drivers.

The state government remains committed to improving road safety, with passenger well-being as its top priority. CM Dhami has instructed all departments to work in coordination to implement these measures effectively, reflecting the government’s dedication to making Uttarakhand’s roads safer for everyone.
